{"id":13538,"date":"2018-03-30T15:33:18","date_gmt":"2018-03-30T04:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=13538"},"modified":"2018-03-30T16:23:21","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T05:23:21","slug":"mcphee-and-fetecau-win-2-doubles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2018\/03\/30\/mcphee-and-fetecau-win-2-doubles","title":{"rendered":"McPhee and Fetecau win #2 doubles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kaylah McPhee (Qld) and Irina Fetecau (ROU) have taken out the doubles title at the ACT Claycourt International #2 with a 6-1 4-6 10-5 victory over fourth seeds Pia Kong (AUT) and Michika Ozeki (JPN).<\/p>\n<p>The win marks McPhee\u2019s first ITF Pro Tour doubles title and the second title for Fetecau.\u00a0 It capped a fairytale week for the unseeded pair who only decided to play together at the last minute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a few days I couldn\u2019t find anyone, I thought everyone is taken I\u2019m not going to be playing doubles at all.\u00a0 We were just both lucky we didn\u2019t have partners and said ok let\u2019s play. We just loved it out there and were enjoying every second of it,\u201d McPhee said.<\/p>\n<p>The pair came through some tough matches during the week and are taking a lot of confidence out of the win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went for it, we didn\u2019t even think about it.\u00a0 Every match was so close, in second round against Alison Bai and Zoe Hives we saved three match points, and yesterday we saved five set points.<\/p>\n<p>It means a lot to see how strong we were on court, to see that we can beat such good players, it gives us confidence and I hope we\u2019ll be able to play again together,\u201d Fetecau said.<\/p>\n<p>The pair will now head in different directions as Irina heads home to Europe, while McPhee will turn her attention to events in Asia.\u00a0 Fetecau and McPhee are hopefully they will play together soon when their schedules align.<\/p>\n<p>In singles quarterfinal action on Friday, it was a great day for the Australian\u2019s with Jaimee Fourlis (Vic) overcoming fourth seed Shezarad Reix (FRA) after recovering from 1-4 in the deciding set, while Zoe Hives (Vic) progressed after top seed Gabriella Taylor (GBR) was forced to retire with injury at 5-5 in the opening set.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen Perez (NSW) rounded out a perfect day for the Aussies with a tight straight sets victory over Jia-Jing Lu (CHN) and will now face second seed Eri Hozumi (JPN) who easily accounted for Katy Dunne (GBR).<\/p>\n<p>Singles semifinals will commence at 11am on Saturday with entry to the Canberra Tennis Centre by gold coin donation.<\/p>\n<p>Draws and order of play can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tournaments\/pro-tournaments\/australian-pro-tour\/canberra-clay-court-international-2\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kaylah McPhee (Qld) and Irina Fetecau (ROU) have taken out the doubles title at the ACT Claycourt International #2 with a 6-1 4-6 10-5 victory over fourth seeds Pia Kong (AUT) and Michika Ozeki (JPN).
