Fed Cup Captain Alicia Molik has inspired Merici College students with a visit to the school on Thursday 1 March. \u00a0Molik spoke to over 200 Year 7 and 8 female students and shared her tennis journey, encouraging them to follow their passion and emphasied the importance of completing their education.<\/p>\n
Molik then joined a PE class as the girls participated in activities from the new Tennis for Secondary Schools resource.<\/p>\n
PE, Health and Behavioural Science Coordinator Emma Kennedy said Alicia’s speech was valuable to young females.<\/p>\n
“Alicia was\u00a0inspiring\u00a0and empowering young women to be more active and achieve a a good lifestyle\u00a0balance. Her focus on the life long benefits of playing a sport was very worthwhile.<\/p>\n
“Alicia\u00a0challenged the girls to work hard, be prepared\u00a0and\u00a0highlighted the importance of female\u00a0participation in sport”.<\/p>\n
Merici College have this year signed up as a Partner School to implement tennis within their curriculum. \u00a0Kennedy said the school is excited about delivering the resource developed by Tennis Australia.<\/p>\n
“Our vision in Physical Education here at the College is to promote the joy of learning and engage all students in physical active. The benefit of this program and the modified equipment is that all students can experience success and this also\u00a0builds their confidence and motivates them to\u00a0participate”.<\/p>\n
