{"id":13124,"date":"2018-02-01T08:34:56","date_gmt":"2018-01-31T21:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=13124"},"modified":"2018-02-01T08:34:56","modified_gmt":"2018-01-31T21:34:56","slug":"ash-barty-to-lead-fed-cup-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2018\/02\/01\/ash-barty-to-lead-fed-cup-charge","title":{"rendered":"Ash Barty to lead Fed Cup charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ashleigh Barty<\/strong>\u00a0(Qld) will lead Australia\u2019s charge against\u00a0<strong>Ukraine<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Canberra\u00a0<\/strong>at the\u00a0<strong>Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II first round\u00a0<\/strong>on 10-11 February 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s top ranked woman at world No.16, Barty will be joined by world No.25\u00a0<strong>Daria Gavrilova\u00a0<\/strong>(Vic), doubles specialist\u00a0<strong>Casey Dellacqua<\/strong>\u00a0(WA) and rising star\u00a0<strong>Destanee Aiava<\/strong>(Vic).<\/p>\n<p>The tie will be played on a purpose-built grass court at the recently redeveloped Canberra Tennis Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is one of the strongest Fed Cup teams we\u2019ve had in many years \u2013 there\u2019s no doubt about it, we will be playing to win and return to the elite world group,\u201d Australian Fed Cup captain\u00a0<strong>Alicia Molik<\/strong>\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m incredibly excited about this group of women. They are all great competitors and love donning the green and gold and coming together to represent their country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth Ash and Dasha had a successful 2017 \u2013 they had some breakthrough results and have achieved career-high rankings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCasey of course brings a wealth of experience along with her doubles expertise, and Destanee has shown us all she\u2019s got a big game. She already has the ability to compete at the highest level and at just 17 years old, she\u2019ll benefit a lot from being around this incredibly professional group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a great tradition of bringing the next generation of players into the team and\u00a0<strong>Lizette Cabrera<\/strong>\u00a0(Qld) will join the squad as a hitting partner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know all the players are looking forward to next week as much as I am and we can\u2019t wait to play in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s such an advantage to play on home soil, and somewhat of a luxury for us.
