{"id":12587,"date":"2017-11-08T15:03:28","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T04:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=12587"},"modified":"2017-11-08T15:03:28","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T04:03:28","slug":"holy-family-to-play-for-todd-woodbridge-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/11\/08\/holy-family-to-play-for-todd-woodbridge-cup","title":{"rendered":"Holy Family to play for Todd Woodbridge Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Holy Family Primary School<\/strong> will represent the ACT as they compete against the top schools from across NSW at the <strong>Todd Woodbridge Cup <\/strong>to be played at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre on Thursday November 9.<\/p>\n<p>Holy Family progressed to the Todd Woodbridge Cup after taking out the <strong>ACT State Final <\/strong>in September, beating out 13 other schools.<\/p>\n<p>Holy Family will compete against 19 schools from across NSW, who have progressed after winning through regional events.\u00a0 Over 300 schools from across NSW and ACT have participated in the competition which is open to Year 3 and 4 students and is played on smaller modified courts suitable for red modified balls.\u00a0 The competition is designed to encourage grass-roots tennis participation in schools and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle among children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne Potter<\/strong>, Sports Coordinator at Holy Family said the children are a thrilled to be playing for the Todd Woodbridge Cup and have been busy preparing for the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are super excited, they\u2019ve been counting the days down, and they can\u2019t wait to get up there.\u00a0 We\u2019ve had a few training sessions at recess and lunch time and we have an elective sports program at the moment and many of them have chosen tennis as their sport and they have been training with our coach [Robert Jamieson].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tennis is thriving at Holy Primary and the Todd Woodbridge Cup has generated a lot of interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had tennis clinics from Kinder to year 4 and they all went through a five week program, on top of that, we\u2019ve had an elective sports program which goes for 5 weeks for Years 3-6.\u00a0 It\u2019s definitely got a much higher profile than we\u2019ve had in the past, and with this tennis competition it\u2019s really drummed up a lot of interest and I know quite a few children have picked up tennis as an after school sport,\u201d Potter added.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis NSW School Development Coordinator, <strong>Nicole Shanahan <\/strong>is pleased with how the competition has developed and credits the hard work of teachers for its success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Todd Woodbridge Cup has successfully grown over the past 2 years with the dedicated support of our NSW and ACT teachers.\u00a0 This red ball competition provides the opportunity for Year 3 and 4 students to play tennis, be part of a team and represent their school\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holy Family Primary School will represent the ACT as they compete against the top schools from across NSW at the Todd Woodbridge Cup to be played at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre on Thursday November 9.
