{"id":12538,"date":"2017-11-04T17:34:02","date_gmt":"2017-11-04T06:34:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=12538"},"modified":"2017-11-04T20:54:29","modified_gmt":"2017-11-04T09:54:29","slug":"aiava-ends-bais-dream-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/11\/04\/aiava-ends-bais-dream-run","title":{"rendered":"Aiava ends Bai&#8217;s dream run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Alison Bai<\/strong>\u2019s (ACT) dream run at the <strong>Apis Canberra International\u00a0<\/strong>came to an end on Saturday after 17-year-old <strong>Destanee Aiava<\/strong>\u00a0(VIC) won their semifinal 6-3 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>Bai, ranked 604, dropped serve early in the first set and was on the back foot from then on against the tournament\u2019s fourth seed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started off slowly,\u201d Bai said. \u201cI knew she was a good ball-striker but I hadn\u2019t played her or hit with her before so I took a while to figure her out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the end she was too solid off both sides and didn\u2019t give me many opportunities. It was a good quality match.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hometown favourite said she was happy with her tournament, having knocked out top-seed <strong>Arina Rodionova<\/strong>\u00a0(VIC) in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a great week, I\u2019m really happy with the way I\u2019ve played,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Aiava, the world\u2019s 169, will play sixth seed <strong>Olivia Rogowska <\/strong>(VIC), a 1-6 6-3 6-0 victor against world number 304\u00a0<strong>Julia Glushko <\/strong>(ISR).<\/p>\n<p>Rogowska, who has been ranked as high as 102 in 2014, came back from a set and three-love down to reach the final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything happened so fast [today], credit to Julia, she came out really pumped up in the first set and played some really good tennis,\u201d Rogowska said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud of myself how I just hung in there. I wanted to snap, I can get quite emotional but I stayed cool and worked a couple of things out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI slowed things down and made her play a couple of extra balls, in a matter of minutes I was back at 3-3 and I thought I\u2019m back in this. By the end of it I was playing some good tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogowska, who has had a \u201crollercoaster couple of years\u201d, has now won 18 of her past 20 matches on the Pro Tour circuit in Australia, winning titles in Cairns and Penrith, along with a semifinal appearance in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>The difference, she said, was simply a change of mindset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I\u2019ve just matured to be honest. I\u2019m approaching my matches in a positive mindset, expecting to battle every match and I feel like that approach has really helped me. I feel like I\u2019ve won some tough matches simply due to my attitude,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t feel like I\u2019ve technically changed much with my forehand and backhand. Just really believing in myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said she was expecting a tough match in the final against Aiava tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDestanee is a very talented up-and-comer who hits an incrediblly hard ball, it\u2019s going to be tough,\u201d Rogowska said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[But] I been serving really well and moving really well and my confidence is really high, so I believe I can do well [in the final].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s final will take place at 11.00am at the Canberra Tennis Centre. \u00a0Entry is by gold coin donation, with limited seating available on a first come basis.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s final <strong>Matthew Ebden\u00a0<\/strong>(WA) will take on\u00a0<strong>Taro Daniel\u00a0<\/strong>(JPN), not before 12.00pm.<\/p>\n<p>The Apis Canberra International 2017 is on at the Canberra Tennis Centre until November 5 2017.
