{"id":12271,"date":"2017-10-10T10:11:33","date_gmt":"2017-10-09T23:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=12271"},"modified":"2017-10-10T10:11:33","modified_gmt":"2017-10-09T23:11:33","slug":"australias-top-juniors-crowned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/10\/10\/australias-top-juniors-crowned","title":{"rendered":"Australia&#8217;s top juniors crowned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The past week has seen Australia\u2019s most promising <strong>12\/u <\/strong>and <strong>14\/u<\/strong> juniors battling it out in <strong>Canberra<\/strong> for the <strong>2017 Australian Claycourt <\/strong><strong>C<\/strong><strong>hampionships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The singles finals for the <strong>12\/u <\/strong>and <strong>14\/u<\/strong> boys and girls were played today at <strong>Canberra Tennis Centre<\/strong>, whilst the doubles champions we\u2019re decided yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis ACT is honoured to have hosted the 12 and 14-and-under Claycourt Championships,\u201d said Tennis ACT CEO <strong>Kim Kachel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanberra Tennis Centre is home to some of the nation\u2019s best clay court facilities so it is only fitting the tournament was held here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe tournament was a huge success, we saw a lot of high quality matches played and some real potential for these players to develop into future stars of the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe championships cap off a busy couple of weeks for Tennis ACT which has also seen us host the Canberra Junior International and the first ever Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open. Later this month the Australian Pro Tour will make its way here with the <strong>Apis Canberra International<\/strong>, a Men\u2019s ATP Challenger tournament and Women\u2019s ITF Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Proving to be a force to be reckoned with, for the second consecutive year, thirteen-year-old <strong>Anastasia Berezov<\/strong> (Terrey Hills, NSW) has claimed both the singles and doubles Claycourt Championships titles, backing up her wins from last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cIt feels really great to win again, I worked really hard throughout the tournament so it was great to come out on top,\u201d Berezov said after taking out the title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI played a pretty consistent game, I really tried to keep my head in the game and maintain my focus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goals for 2018 are to try and improve my ITF junior ranking to the top 200, and improve my Australian junior ranking to the top 100.<\/p>\n<p>In the boy\u2019s draw, <strong>Cooper White<\/strong> (Alphington, Vic) was crowned the 14-and-under Australian Claycourt Champion, after taking out the boys\u2019 title against WA\u2019s <strong>Derek Pham<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper has continued an impressive year where he earlier represented Australia at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in Czech Republic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels great to win a national title, I was a finalist at the Grasscourt Championships earlier in the year at Berri so it\u2019s good to get the win today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI played the Canberra Junior International last week on these courts, so I felt that really helped me get familiar with the surface which gave me a bit of an advantage.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Final results<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Singles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Girls 14-and-under final<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[1] Anastasia Berezov (Terrey Hills, NSW) def.
