{"id":12215,"date":"2017-09-28T12:04:21","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T02:04:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=12215"},"modified":"2017-09-28T12:04:21","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T02:04:21","slug":"leggett-and-busic-ready-to-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/09\/28\/leggett-and-busic-ready-to-roll","title":{"rendered":"Leggett and Busic ready to roll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Matthew Leggett<\/strong> and <strong>Ante Busic<\/strong> will lead the local hopes at the inaugural <strong>Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open <\/strong>commencing on Friday.\u00a0 The event is an ITF Futures Series tournament, part of the <strong>UNIQLO ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour and<\/strong> includes Men\u2019s, Women\u2019s and Mixed juniors events with some of Australia\u2019s best wheelchair athletes participating.<\/p>\n<p>Leggett currently ranked 11 in Australia will face tough competition from <strong>Keegan Oh-Chee <\/strong>(NSW), <strong>Henry De Cure <\/strong>(SA), and <strong>Stephan Rochecouste <\/strong>(NSW), who are ranked 2, 3, and 4 in Australia.\u00a0 Busic competed in Nationals in 2016, and this will be his first ITF wheelchair event.<\/p>\n<p>Leggett has been preparing for the event with a three day Tennis Australia Wheelchair Tennis National Development Camp saying \u201cIt\u2019s been really good prep to hit with some of the best guys in the country and take a few tips of them leading into the tournament on the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leggett is looking forward to playing here in Canberra and excited about the exposure the event will provide to wheelchair tennis in the ACT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a massive plus for the community down here and giving Tennis ACT a bit of a boost in terms of wheelchair players and hopefully a few more will come out of it from this weekend,\u201d Leggett added.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s event will be an open field with <strong>Helen Smith<\/strong> (NSW), <strong>Janine Watson<\/strong> (QLD), <strong>Fiona Sing<\/strong> (NSW), and <strong>Hayley Slocombe <\/strong>(NSW) in contention.\u00a0 Slocombe is the top ranked junior girl in Australia and currently ranked 33 in the ITF world junior girl\u2019s rankings.\u00a0 She will also contest the mixed junior event, which features the top two ranked boys in Australia in <strong>Marcus Lentini <\/strong>(QLD) and <strong>Riley Dumsday <\/strong>(VIC) along with <strong>Fernando Grez Montiel <\/strong>(CHI).<\/p>\n<p>The Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open will run from September 29 \u2013 October 1 at the Canberra Tennis Centre in Lyneham with free entry.<\/p>\n<p>Full draws and order of play can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itftennis.com\/wheelchair\/tournaments\/tournament\/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100039298\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open will also look to encourage individuals to get involved with a free wheelchair tennis come and try event being held on Sunday October 1 from 10.00am \u2013 12.00pm in conjunction with the finals.<\/p>\n<p>Leggett is encouraging people to come alone saying \u201cIt\u2019s be a fantastic opportunity for those guys to get out and give it a go and see if it\u2019s something they want to get involved with\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wheelchair tennis in the capital is on the rise, with a new Wheelchair Tennis Twilight social program set to launch in October.\u00a0 For more information on the come and try day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news-and-events\/events\/wheelchair-tennis-come-and-try-day\">click here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matthew Leggett and Ante Busic will lead the local hopes at the inaugural Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open commencing on Friday.\u00a0 The event is an ITF Futures Series tournament, part of the UNIQLO ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour and includes Men\u2019s, Women\u2019s and Mixed juniors events with some of Australia\u2019s best wheelchair athletes participating.
