{"id":12196,"date":"2017-09-22T10:25:28","date_gmt":"2017-09-22T00:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=12196"},"modified":"2017-09-22T10:25:28","modified_gmt":"2017-09-22T00:25:28","slug":"canberra-itf-attracts-world-class-juniors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/09\/22\/canberra-itf-attracts-world-class-juniors","title":{"rendered":"Canberra ITF attracts world class juniors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ACT players are set to compete against players from across the globe as the <strong>Canberra Junior International<\/strong> gets under way today at the Canberra Tennis Centre.\u00a0 Twelve nations are represented at the ITF Grade 5 event which offers world junior ranking points.<\/p>\n<p>In the Boys event, Australians <strong>Stefan Storch <\/strong>(VIC) and <strong>Will Hann <\/strong>(WA) ranked 533 and 676 respectively in the world junior rankings will enter as the players to beat.\u00a0 The international contingent will be led by <strong>Saranpahon Siriwanichkul <\/strong>(THA), <strong>Qian Sun <\/strong>(CHN) and <strong>Ethan Kai Xin Lye <\/strong>(SGP).\u00a0 Lye will be full of confidence after making it through to the final of the NSW Junior International in Sydney this week.<\/p>\n<p>ACT\u2019s <strong>Jamieson Nathan <\/strong>and <strong>Zac Donaldson <\/strong>will be looking to make an impact in the main draw.\u00a0 Nathan, has been in great form on his home courts, taking out back to back Australian Money Tournaments in Canberra this year.\u00a0 Fellow ACT players <strong>Jack Tallarida Lyons<\/strong> and <strong>Jimmy Fu <\/strong>will commence their campaigns in qualifying today.<\/p>\n<p>In the Girls event, <strong>Patricia Apisah <\/strong>(PNG) will lead the draw currently ranked 232 in the world junior rankings.\u00a0 New Zealand\u2019s <strong>Oleksandra Kalachova <\/strong>is the second seed, while <strong>Zara Brankovic <\/strong>(NSW) is the top ranked Australian at 545 and has made it through to the final of the NSW Junior International this week.\u00a0\u00a0 Currently ranked 788 in the ITF world junior rankings, <strong>Annerly Poulos <\/strong>(ACT) will lead the local hopes.\u00a0 Poulos is the defending girls champion, winning the 18 and under event in 2016.\u00a0 <strong>Ashleigh Simes <\/strong>(ACT) and <strong>Matina Ujdur <\/strong>(ACT) will be looking to join Poulos in the main draw, as they play in qualifying today.<\/p>\n<p>Canberra Junior International Tournament Director <strong>Lenka Greenhalgh<\/strong> is thrilled with the quality of the draw.\u00a0 \u201cPlayers have travelled from as far as Great Britain and USA to compete here in Canberra.\u00a0 There is sure to be quality tennis on display as we are set to watch the future generation of tennis stars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is great to be able to provide our ACT juniors the opportunity to compete against some of the best international player\u2019s right here in Canberra,\u201d Greenhalgh added.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying commences today and continues tomorrow, with main draw set to start on Sunday.\u00a0 Finals will be played on Thursday 28 September.<\/p>\n<p>The Canberra Junior International kick starts an action packed two weeks for the Canberra Tennis Centre which will also host the <strong>12\/u &amp; 14\/u Australian Claycourt Championships <\/strong>(29 September &#8211; 4 October), the inaugural <strong>Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open<\/strong> (29 September \u2013 1 October) and the <strong>Tennis World Canberra Junior Open <\/strong>(5-8 October).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/clicktime.symantec.com\/a\/1\/yGMcflDkXWxD1PDjToVy9dlWV3bov0DMwgM8dRjnCXM=?d=kBwuL4KRXUGYkoHuG54yByaAk_3srBb3lWRGpAdfhAsadcHjtkkaV3TclXVYoPk3qvQiNuq_ICMSyki73qKVH4rxdfSWWVpdZ7MnPPhC1Yju_35uDVPrMNFqYZrDY1bE_KzV14HW8aXSpqjd5pqdi1-hcb39eHyUJTBwcsaDNyCLZJIUt2iy1tj5WJYHj-DNE58WQ2DwzpSYhqe-VIY4UFcODfFIE1HciUMn1NIccgAe1jPxhYpJoK4f673AzG-YKMEsHEJJ5kUzz_JWVqEniNSWgkKrLQNnVqkUT25yNXnfpj2bwF0B94mCai_q47VrsKFWjRFwV2sPS5POEfUhdshe544HTCVUucjsWrtzc_hvYafe68P2xeUuCfyuAIOa_rwdjC2-xfCu2qJA_hxWO0ruTqRe4s3bFccexEMB5F9-BIYXMJQKsqUJhE5jQLH1wqswOs9wxIQaMySTVy-Y7Q%3D%3D&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.itftennis.com%2Fjuniors%2Ftournaments%2Ftournament%2Finfo.aspx%3Ftournamentid%3D1100039785\">Full draw<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ACT players are set to compete against players from across the globe as the Canberra Junior International gets under way today at the Canberra Tennis Centre.\u00a0 Twelve nations are represented at the ITF Grade 5 event which offers world junior ranking points.
