Anne-Marie Medcalf \u00a0<\/strong>(NSW)\u00a0and\u00a0Edward Bourchier\u00a0<\/strong>(TAS) have taken out the AMT singles titles at the\u00a0Tennis World Canberra Capital Open. \u00a0<\/strong>Almost 120 participants from across Australia, participated in the event held at the Canberra Tennis Centre from September 8-10.<\/p>\n

In the AMT women’s singles, Medcalf lived up to her top seed status, winning the tournament without dropping a set. \u00a0In the semifinals she defeated Canberra’s Ashleigh Simes, <\/strong>6-0, 6-3. \u00a0On the other side of the draw,\u00a0Canberra’s Annerly Poulos\u00a0<\/strong>was narrowly defeated in a tight three set battle by\u00a0Renee McBryde\u00a0<\/strong>(NSW). \u00a0In the final, Medcalf proved too strong, defeating McBryde 6-4, 6-2.<\/p>\n

After surviving a three set battle against\u00a0Jack Swindells\u00a0<\/strong>(NSW) in the second round, Bourchier’s went from strength to\u00a0strength in the AMT Men’s singles. \u00a0The semifinals saw the third seed prevail over second seed\u00a0Oliver Casey\u00a0<\/strong>in a tight battle 6-4, 7-6(2). \u00a0In the other semifinal, Canberra’s\u00a0Jamieson Nathan\u00a0<\/strong>was beaten by unseeded\u00a0Josh Kaplan. \u00a0<\/strong>Bourchier was dominate against Kaplan in the final, dropping just two games on his way to the title.<\/p>\n

In the AMT Women’s doubles, Medcalf and McBryde combined to defeat\u00a0Sarina Kang <\/strong>(ACT)\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Cayleigh Eddy\u00a0<\/strong>(NSW), while in the Men’s doubles\u00a0Taiyo Harada<\/strong> (JPN)and Ashley Lauweriks (NSW)\u00a0defeating\u00a0Robert Howe <\/strong>(ACT) and Paul Howe<\/strong>\u00a0(NSW). \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
