{"id":12123,"date":"2017-09-13T15:10:50","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T05:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=12123"},"modified":"2017-09-13T15:11:32","modified_gmt":"2017-09-13T05:11:32","slug":"smashing-their-way-to-todd-woodbridge-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/09\/13\/smashing-their-way-to-todd-woodbridge-cup","title":{"rendered":"Smashing their way to Todd Woodbridge Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Holy Family<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Primary School Smasher<\/strong>s are on their way to the <strong>Todd Woodbridge Cup Final<\/strong> in Sydney after winning the ACT State Final at the Canberra Tennis Centre today.<\/p>\n<p>The top eight teams from schools across the ACT participated in the ACT State Final after winning their way through four <strong>ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Regional Gala Days <\/strong>held in August and September.<\/p>\n<p>The teams were divided in top pools with the top two progressing through to the semifinals where Holy Family defeated <strong>Mother Teresa<\/strong>, while <strong>St Edmunds College\u00a0<\/strong>edged out <strong>Canberra Grammar School. \u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0In final, the smashers narrowly defeated\u00a0<strong>St Edmund&#8217;s College\u00a0<\/strong>five sets to three to claim the title.<\/p>\n<p>Holy Family student\u00a0<strong>Ashlee Antonakas<\/strong>, whose favourite player is Serena Williams, said the \u201dbest thing about tennis is joy and having fun\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favourite thing about today is that I can win and meet new people and have fun,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Holy Family will now represent the ACT at the Todd Woodbridge Cup Final on November 9 at Sydney Olympic Park, where they will play against the top 20 schools from across NSW.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 250 children from thirteen schools have participated in the competition this year. \u00a0Tennis ACT School Development Coordinator <strong>Geoff Bartlett<\/strong> was thrilled at the success of the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ANZ Tennis Hot Shot Gala Days and the ACT State Final have been a great way to connect more students with tennis. \u00a0The kids have really enjoyed representing their schools and getting out on court competing. \u00a0We can&#8217;t wait to grow this event further in 2018.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ACT State Final placings<\/strong><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>1st<\/td>\n<td>Holy Family Smashers<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2nd<\/td>\n<td>St Edmund&#8217;s College<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>3rd<\/td>\n<td>Canberra Grammar School<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4th<\/td>\n<td>Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>5th<\/td>\n<td>Giralang Primay School<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>6th<\/td>\n<td>Aranda Primary School<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>7th<\/td>\n<td>Holy Spirit Lightning<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>8th<\/td>\n<td>Holy Family Volleyers<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holy Family\u00a0Primary School Smashers are on their way to the Todd Woodbridge Cup Final in Sydney after winning the ACT State Final at the Canberra Tennis Centre today.
