{"id":11759,"date":"2017-07-19T14:03:49","date_gmt":"2017-07-19T04:03:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=11759"},"modified":"2017-07-19T14:03:49","modified_gmt":"2017-07-19T04:03:49","slug":"schools-celebrate-naidoc-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/07\/19\/schools-celebrate-naidoc-week","title":{"rendered":"Schools celebrate NAIDOC week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Together with two local partner primary schools,\u00a0<strong>Harrison School<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Ngunnawal Primary<\/strong>, Tennis ACT\u00a0hosted a\u00a0<strong>NAIDOC Celebration<\/strong>\u00a0event on Thursday 29 June 2017.<\/p>\n<p>NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.<\/p>\n<p>Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from both schools participated in on court activities with ANZ Tennis Hot Shots deliverer, <strong>Robert Jamieson.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Harrison school teacher <strong>David Ferguson <\/strong>was pleased with the physical and social outcomes achieved on the day.\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cThe session was really positive and professionally run.\u00a0 It was great to see the kids engaged and having a go\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was good about today was bringing the two schools together and the enjoyment tennis brings to the children.\u00a0 The social aspect of getting the children to talk and interact was great to see\u201d Ferguson added.<\/p>\n<p>This was the first year the event was held, with future plans to expand the event in 2018.\u00a0 Any interested schools can contact Tennis ACT School Development Coordinator, Geoff Bartlett <a href=\"mailto:gbartlett@tennis.com.au\">gbartlett@tennis.com.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Together with two local partner primary schools,\u00a0Harrison School\u00a0and\u00a0Ngunnawal Primary, Tennis ACT\u00a0hosted a\u00a0NAIDOC Celebration\u00a0event on Thursday 29 June 2017.
