{"id":11156,"date":"2017-05-09T13:02:06","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T03:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=11156"},"modified":"2017-06-13T10:44:15","modified_gmt":"2017-06-13T00:44:15","slug":"act-athletes-showcase-key-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/05\/09\/act-athletes-showcase-key-results","title":{"rendered":"ACT athletes showcase key results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Up and coming tennis player\u00a0<strong>Jimmy Fu<\/strong>\u00a0has enjoyed great success this month, competing well at three competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Fu, part of Nathan Price&#8217;s academy, reached the final of the 14\/u boys singles at the <strong>Singleton Grasscourt Junior Tournament (JT)<\/strong>, then went on the win the 16\/u boys singles title at the <strong>Tennis World Canberra Challenge<\/strong>\u00a0in April. The 14-year-old continued his good form to win the 14\/u boys singles title in May at the <strong>Bathurst Junior Tournament (JT)<\/strong>. Jimmy also competed at the\u00a014\/u <strong>Grasscourt Nationals<\/strong> where he won two singles matches. Fu&#8217;s\u00a0results should see a strong rise in his Australian Ranking next update.\u00a0Congratulations and well done on an outstanding month.<\/p>\n<p>The recent Bathurst event highlighted 14-year-old <strong>Ashleigh Simes<\/strong>\u00a0who won the 14\/u girls singles title without dropping a set.\u00a0<strong>Daniel McDonald<\/strong> also won the 12\/u Boys singles event at the <strong>Tennis World Canberra Challenge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>10-year-old aspiring tennis star\u00a0<strong>Charlie Camus<\/strong> reached three final round matches, including\u00a0the 12\/u boys singles event at the <strong>Bathurst JT<\/strong>, 14\/u boys singles at the <strong>Tennis World Canberra Challenge<\/strong> and the 12\/u boys singles and doubles (with ACT player Daniel McDonald) at the <strong>Albury Easter Open.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whilst the younger players were picking up titles close to home, some of the older ACT National Academy players were competing in two ITF junior events in both Melbourne and Mornington.<\/p>\n<p>The best result came from <strong>Lisa Mays,<\/strong> who reached the doubles final the first week and the singles final the second week. <strong>Annerly Poulos<\/strong> also reached a doubles final in the second\u00a0week, whilst Ashleigh Simes made her first ever ITF ranking points.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be outdone was 17-year-old <strong>Jamieson Nathan<\/strong> who \u00a0won the AMT men&#8217;s singles at the <strong>Tennis World Canberra Challenge<\/strong> and was a semi-finalist at the <strong>Tasmanian Easter Championships<\/strong>. At the same event, 19-year-old <strong>Sarina Kang<\/strong> took out the women&#8217;s singles by defeating ACT player <strong>Leah Williamson<\/strong> in the final. Sarina was a\u00a0finalist at the <strong>Bathurst Bronze Australian Money Tournament (AMT)<\/strong>\u00a0partnering <strong>Chorlida Kang,<\/strong> her sister, to reach the doubles final.<\/p>\n<p>On the international scene, ACT player <strong>James Frawley<\/strong> has some great results when he reached the doubles final of the ITF Futures event in Antalya, Turkey. At the same event, Frawley ousted two players in R32 and R16 to reach the singles quarterfinals. James is now in Madrid at the ATP \u00a0Masters 1000 event assisting\u00a0fellow Canberran <strong>Nick Kyrgios<\/strong> as his hitting partner, as Nick plays his first clay court event of the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some other notable results include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Maddison Sutherland<\/strong> \u2013 16\/u girls singles r\/up at Tennis World Canberra Challenge<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jack Tallarida-Lyons<\/strong> \u2013 16\/u boys singles semi-finalist at Tennis World Canberra Challenge<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie Snow\/Daniel McDonald<\/strong> \u2013 r\/up at Bathurst Autumn JT<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erik Chen<\/strong> \u2013 16\/u boys singles r\/up at Albury Easter Open<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sophie McDonald<\/strong> \u2013 r\/up 14\/u girls doubles at Albury Easter Open<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Up and coming tennis player\u00a0Jimmy Fu\u00a0has enjoyed great success this month, competing well at three competitions.
