For the first time in several years, Australia won the competition. They defeated <strong>Japan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka<\/strong> en route to beating <strong>South Korea<\/strong> in the final 2-0. It capped off a remarkable tournament for Annerly, who was undefeated in singles and lost only 1 doubles match, finishing the event with an outstanding 11-1 win\/loss record.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Australian team has now qualified for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itftennis.com\/juniors\/team-competitions\/itf-world-junior-tennis.aspx\">14\/u World Junior Teams final <\/a>which will be held in the Czech Republic in August this year. There, they will take on the best teams from each continent in which will no doubt be a great experience for the girls.<\/p>\n<p>Well done to the whole team which consisted of <strong>Annerly Poulos <\/strong>(ACT),<strong> Lara Walker<\/strong> (QLD),<strong> Anastasia Berezov<\/strong> (NSW) and team manager <strong>Bryanne Stewart<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/04\/08\/poulous-qualifies-for-itf-world-junior-tennis-finals\">Click here for more on the 14\/u Aussie team&#8217;s success story.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nick Kyrgios<\/strong> went on a run in March which included three semi-finals and one quarter-finals over a six week period. He defeated top 20 players<strong> Novak Djokovic<\/strong> (twice), <strong>Alexander Zverev<\/strong> (twice) and <strong>David Goffin<\/strong>. Nick&#8217;s match against tennis legend <strong>Roger Federer<\/strong> was hailed by many as one of the greatest matches outside of a Grand Slam, with Nick narrowly going down 6-7, 7-6, 6-7.<\/p>\n<p>Nick has now picked up 855 ranking points in 2017, which means he maintains his world ranking of No.16 but also moves him to 10th on the ATP rankings race to London. Nick has returned to Australia as part of the Australian Davis Cup team in the quarterfinal tie against the USA in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/04\/03\/ogorman-and-bourchier-take-act-open-titles\">ACT Open 2017 <\/a>featured\u00a0Tasmanian <strong>Harry Bouchier<\/strong> in the men&#8217;s Platinum event, who triumphed in 3 tough sets over Queenslander <strong>Scott Poudziunas.<\/strong>\u00a0Whilst in the women&#8217;s event (a Silver AMT) local player<strong> Sarina Kang<\/strong> reached the final before going down to <strong>Gaby O&#8217;Gorman<\/strong>\u00a0(NSW). The ACT pairing of <strong>Tallulah Farrow<\/strong> and <strong>Leah Williamson<\/strong> reached the doubles final as did local boys <strong>Jarred Wynan<\/strong> and <strong>Dimitri Morogiannis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Both\u00a0Annerly Poulos\u00a0and Nick Kyrgios\u00a0set the international tennis stage alight in March with outstanding on court performances.
