Despite a large show of Canberra support, unseeded Sam Groth<\/strong> (VIC) is out of the East Hotel Canberra Challenger<\/strong> following a straight sets defeat by eighth seed Dudi Sela (ISR)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sela, from Israel, wasn\u2019t happy with his game.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday was not a great match for me, but when you play not so good and you win, it gives you confidence, so I\u2019m happy.<\/p>\n

The win is a major confidence-boost for the world No.96, who is set to play in the Australian Open next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy I played a little better than him [and] I was lucky in the tie break.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast week I played really well. This week, it\u2019s different conditions. [There\u2019s a] little bit of altitude, so the ball flies more, [so] it\u2019s different, but hopefully tomorrow it\u2019ll be a tough match and I\u2019ll play better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the amount of Groth supporters, Sela had his own fan club in the crowd including Melbourne\u2019s Eli Rubenstein Sturgess <\/strong>who\u00a0made the trip in support of Sela. Sturgess is one of hundreds of Sela fans who support him around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was also [at the match] yesterday,\u201d Sela said. \u201cIt\u2019s nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The quarterfinal round kicked off today with an intense three set match between top seed Jan-Lennard Struff<\/strong> (GER) and world No.85 Konstantin Kravchuk<\/strong> (RUS).<\/p>\n

Despite being split after two sets, Struff took the match 6-4, 6-7[6], 6-3 in two hours and was happy with the quality of tennis.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It was a] pretty good match,\u201d he said. \u201cGood quality.\u201d<\/p>\n

The hot and sunny Canberra conditions took Struff out of his comfort zone, but the blistering heat hasn\u2019t stopped him from enjoying his visit.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Australia is] very nice,\u201d he said. \u201c[It\u2019s a] bit hotter than Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sixth seed Steve Darcis <\/strong>(BEL) also progresses to the semifinal round, defeating unseeded teenager Denis Shapovalov<\/strong> (CAN) in a two set match.<\/p>\n

Shapovalov put up a good fight, taking the second set to a tie-break. However Darcis proved too strong, taking the match 6-0, 7-6[4].<\/p>\n

Unseeded Alejandro Falla <\/strong>(COL) was also victorious on Day 4 after taking out seventh seed Carlos Berlocq<\/strong> (ARG) in straight sets.<\/p>\n

Doubles semifinal matches played out today, paving the way to the tournament doubles final.<\/p>\n

Struff took home his second match of the day, partnering countryman Andre Begemann<\/strong>. The German duo will now face Argentinians Carlos Berlocq<\/strong> and Andres Molteni<\/strong> in the doubles final on centre court on January 13.<\/p>\n
