{"id":10315,"date":"2017-01-07T15:39:27","date_gmt":"2017-01-07T04:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=10315"},"modified":"2017-01-07T16:02:15","modified_gmt":"2017-01-07T05:02:15","slug":"frawley-wins-first-round-qualifying-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/01\/07\/frawley-wins-first-round-qualifying-match","title":{"rendered":"Frawley wins first round qualifying match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The qualifying rounds of the East Hotel Canberra Challenger began today, with Canberra\u2019s <strong>James Frawley<\/strong> (ACT) fighting out a tough battle with Australian No. 60 <strong>Mislav Bosnjak<\/strong> (SA) winning 6-3, 7-6 [5].<\/p>\n<p>Ranked No. 2 in the ACT, the modest 22-year-old from O\u2019Connor said he was happy to come out in front of a good home crowd and play well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great, it was my first match of the year, so I was really happy to get that one out of the way\u201d<\/p>\n<p>18-year old Bosnjak was a feisty opponent, however Frawley fought hard to come back in the second set, and held his nerve during a teeth clenching tie-break to take the win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah I almost lost it, but it was good to come back in the second [set] and win it,\u201d he said. \u201cYeah it was a bit of a relief, there was a fair few people watching, so it was good to get the win\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Frawley\u2019s hitting partner and world No. 13 <strong>Nick Kyrgios<\/strong> (ACT) was courtside and showed support for his friend at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was good. Normally I\u2019m courtside at his matches so it was nice of him to show up and watch me\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The pair chatted briefly after the match, Kyrgios stating \u201che [James] played great\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said he liked a few of my shots, and he said he liked the match point, I went for it. Like he would normally do on a big point, just go for it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Frawley continued \u201cLast year I was out for most of the year with a back injury, so I\u2019m just happy to back playing healthy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really have any ranking goals at the moment, just to play a full year without injury is my main goal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The day didn\u2019t go as well for fellow locals <strong>Jarred Wynan (ACT)<\/strong> and <strong>Dimitri Morogiannis (ACT)<\/strong> who lost their opening qualifying matches.<\/p>\n<p>Wildcard <strong>Tomislav Edward Papac<\/strong> (NSW) also stunned both <strong>Lawrence Bataljin (SA) <\/strong>and<strong> Matthew Dellavedova (VIC) <\/strong>winning both matches in three set showdowns.<\/p>\n<p>Four matches will take place on Day 2, including Frawley who will take to centre court against <strong>Jake Delaney<\/strong> (NSW) at 10am with the hope of securing a win to take him into the main draw, due to start on Monday 9 January.<\/p>\n<p>Tournament information including full Order of Play &amp; Draws can be found on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/tournaments\/pro-tournaments\/australian-pro-tour\/canberra-2\">tournament website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Entry from 7 &#8211; 13 January is free.
