{"id":10309,"date":"2017-01-06T14:00:51","date_gmt":"2017-01-06T03:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=10309"},"modified":"2017-01-06T14:00:51","modified_gmt":"2017-01-06T03:00:51","slug":"prepared-frawley-to-compete-in-qualifying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2017\/01\/06\/prepared-frawley-to-compete-in-qualifying","title":{"rendered":"Prepared: Frawley to compete in qualifying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canberra player <strong>James Frawley<\/strong> (ACT) has received direct entry into qualifying at the <strong>East Hotel Canberra Challenger 2017<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ranked 1930 in the world, the unassuming 22-year-old suffered from a back injury for the majority of 2016, but feels ready to go on home turf this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve just had a six week training block, including hitting with Nick [Kyrgios] before Hompan in Perth, so I\u2019m well prepared,\u201d Frawley said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my first tournament in a while, but I feel fit and healthy and ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A regular on the ITF Futures circuit, Frawley won his first Junior ITF title at just 17, coming from a set down to defeat top seed and current world No. 79, <strong>Jordan Thompson<\/strong> (NSW) in the final of the Queensland Junior Claycourt International.<\/p>\n<p>Frawley made his ATP main draw debut at the\u00a02015 Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur\u00a0in the doubles draw partnering\u00a0current world No. 13 <strong>Nick Kyrgios <\/strong>(ACT).<\/p>\n<p>In November 2016, Frawley received a doubles wildcard into the main draw of the Apis Canberra International where he reached the quarterfinal round partnering\u00a0<strong>Harry <\/strong><strong>Bourchier <\/strong>(TAS). The pair were ousted by Aussies<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Steven De Waard <\/strong>(QLD)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Marc Polmans <\/strong>(VIC).<\/p>\n<p>Tournament Director <strong>Ross Triffitt<\/strong> said it will be fantastic to see local talent on court this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s [Frawley] played for Canberra Velocity, he\u2019s Nick Kyrgios\u2019 regular hitting partner, he\u2019s the number two ranked player in the ACT and he\u2019s going to be competing in qualifying over the weekend, so it\u2019s very exciting that we have some local interest in the event,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Triffitt continued \u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to not just have a single star in Nick Kyrgios, we\u2019ve got some fantastic junior players that are now representing Australia as well. I encourage all Canberrans\u2019 to come down to Lyneham to watch the tournament, but particularly in support of our local talent on opening weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The East Hotel Canberra Challenger 2017 will take place at the Canberra Tennis Centre from 7 &#8211; 14 January 2017. Entry from 7 &#8211; 13 January is free.
