{"id":10039,"date":"2016-11-21T14:06:27","date_gmt":"2016-11-21T03:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/?p=10039"},"modified":"2016-12-05T11:49:31","modified_gmt":"2016-12-05T00:49:31","slug":"historic-act-residents-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tennis.com.au\/act\/news\/2016\/11\/21\/historic-act-residents-returns","title":{"rendered":"Historic ACT Residents Returns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 83rd annual <strong>ACT Residents Championships<\/strong> will take place in Lyneham from <strong>9-11 December 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over 100 players are expected to converge upon the Canberra Tennis Centre in one of the only events dedicated to the local tennis community.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the tournament gives local players, both junior and senior, the opportunity to showcase their talent and play competitive friendly matches with family and friends at one of the best tennis venues in the country.<\/p>\n<p>2015 ACT Residents Championships men\u2019s singles defending champion, <strong>Daniel Green<\/strong>, said he has enjoyed his tennis experience for the past five years, on and off the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve always enjoyed playing the Residents and supporting local tennis,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Residents usually attracts a lot of the pennant players that I play with and against throughout the year, and tends to have a more relaxed environment than some of the other tournaments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Green continued \u201cResidents provides local players of all levels an opportunity to compete against their peers but also catch-up with each other off the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tournament was initiated in 1933 by the <strong>Council of the Federal Capital Lawn Tennis Association<\/strong> to celebrate the opening of the <strong>Manuka Tennis Courts Pavilion<\/strong>.
