The town of Young is located approximately four hours west of Sydney and two hours north of Canberra. The area is known as the’The Cherry Capital of Australia’. Young is also the hub of a rich and diversified farming community. Cattle, sheep, pigs, stonefruits, vineyards and cropping are prevalent throughout the area.
Young hosts a population of some 15,000 and serves a regional population of approximately 60,000 people. Five schools, three primary schools, pre-schools and day care centres provide an outstanding education for our young population. A new hospital and aged care facilities along with a retirement village and aged care units support the aging population.
The Young Tennis Centre was established in 1895. Tennis has always been a popular sport in this area. The centre has grown over many years and now boasts disabled access, a fifteen court complex with eight courts under lights and a large car park.
The Centre is managed by Colin and Lynne Maher. Colin is a Talent Development Coach with Tennis Australia and has thirty five years of tennis experience both on and off the court. These experiences include the development of both junior and senior players, , international team touring, delivery of the MLC Hot Shots Program for 5-12 years, Cardiao Tennis, schools programs and day to day management of tennis facilities.
