2011 Sunsmart Metro Schools Tennis Classic

This years event was held in Term 1 with a total of 28 Metro Schools submitting a record 136 Teams. With the increase in numbers we were able to once again call on Belmont Tennis Club as our second venue for some of the Events.

The Girls Academy Plate   is made up of Primary Schools teams from Metro the area.  A round robin draw with 6 Teams entered  resulted in  Brentwood Primary as the Champions. Winners and Runners up received trophies and all players received certificates and medallions for participation.

The Boys AcademyPlate  saw the largest increase in teams this year resulting in a change of format(Compass Draw) to allow schools to complete this event in one day. Of the 13 schools entered Winthrop Primary were victorious.

Winthrop Primary

The Herbert Edwards Cup allows schools to enter teams in years 8 & 9. The format for this event is round robin pools with the winners progressing to the Division one Play offs and the runners up moving to Division 2. Applecross Senior High School under the guidance of Lee Jarvinen were winners of the Girls and Boys Division one Cup.

Applecross SHS Shenton College

Shenton College had a great match with the girls from Tranby College to win the Division 2 girls event & Perth Modern SHS just fell over the line against  CBC Fremantle in the boys Division 2 final.

The Mursell/Slazenger Cup  for pupils in years 10-12 is also a round robin play off event with the winners of each pool progressing to the Slazenger Cup elimination finals and the runners up moving to the Mursell Shield knockout draw.

Once again Applecross SHS took home both the boys and girls trophys in the Slazenger Cup .

The girls team from Applecross SHS also won the Mursell Shield but Carine SHS fought hard and deservedly took home the trophy this year.

All winning schools will have their names added to the perpetuals and will also receive mini replicas of their respective trophies as a momento for their school.

Applecross Senior High School as the winners of the Slazenger Cup will now represent WA at the National teams event in Wagga Wagga later this year.
