RTD Tour 400x

Last week, Tennis Australia’s Coach and Talent Development Manager WA, Pablo Eguiguren, with assistance from Tennis West’s Community Tennis Officer, Paul Oldfield, visited Kalgoorlie, Esperance and Albany to spend time with the regions coaches and selected talent identified players in a training camp environment.

The purpose of the trip was to run a regional Talent Development Camp where the local Club Coach invited a selection of his / her athletes showing a keen interest in playing tennis competitively and displaying a positive attitude to play tennis for many years ahead.

The training camps were enjoyed by all athletes. They focused on training movement patterns specific to their current developmental readiness and also went through a series of exercises focusing on perception and preparation.

Another major focus of the camp was for the development of the regions coaches.
A total of 9 coaches across the 3 regions were involved in a professional development workshop prior to the commencement of the training camp and they continuously discussed the topics with Pablo during the training camp to further understand the themes and ways that it can be implemented in various environments which they come across.

Whilst in these regional towns it was a great opportunity to spend time with the local coaches and visit a number of schools to introduce the school and students to Tennis Australia’s national grassroots program, ANZ Tennis Hot Shots (ANZTHS) as well as creating new relationships.

The schools which received these visits were; Kalgoorlie – Hannans Primary School and St Marys Primary School, whilst in Esperance –  Esperance Primary School and Esperance Christian Primary School. Just under 1000 students were exposed to ANZTHS and these schools are now looking forward to becoming involved in the National Schools Partnership Program come July 1st.

A total of 2400 kilometres were travelled during this worthwhile trip, Pablo and Paul hope to return to the regions soon to see the program developments and to further discuss player development ideas with the regions coaches.
