24 July 2014 | Tennis West

State-Open

The State Open Age is a Gold Points Australian Ranking Junior tournament held from Monday 7th July to Friday 11th July at the State Tennis Centre.

228 entries were received from WA’s top athletes and visiting players from around Australia and Asia. Wet winter weather made for compact tennis during the first 2 days, affecting mostly the qualifying events and early rounds. Once the skies cleared and the courts dried, excellent matches saw a few seeds fall in the younger age groups. For the 12’s group this was their first experience of matches with umpires and officials on court, which was a great learning experience. The finals were extremely competitive under the watchful eye of the Chair Umpires with the top seeds Luca Bonini, Lexie Weir, Ben Webster and Meg Connell prevailing in the 14’s and 16’s.
