From left to right: Annett Kontaveit (EST) and Irina Falconi (USA)

The 2013 Margaret River International Women’s Pro Tour has ended with the singles final going the way of Annett Kontaveit 6-2, 6-4. The first set was fast paced which did not allow Irina into the match on her terms. In the second set Irina went 4-0 up early but then Annett made good use of the corners which prevented Irina from delivering the shot variety for she is well known. Annett’s speed and consistency prevailed to win the second set and match.

Irina is 23 years old, born in Ecuador, and resides in Palm Beach, Florida. She has played in all four Grand Slams and has a career high world ranking of 73. She was the runner-up last week in Perth and was consistent as the finalist this week.

Annett is 17 years of age. She has represented her country Estonia in the Federation Cup. She is also the first Estonian to make the final of the junior draw of the US Open last year.

The verandah and grassy banks were filled with spectators at the Margaret River Tennis Club in beautiful spring sunshine.
