John Gluyas has been officially recognised with a Tennis Service Award during the ANZ Victorian Community Tennis Forum at AAMI Park on Wednesday night.

The award, which is part of the Tennis Victoria Recognition Program, acknowledges devoted and significant service to one or more of the State Tennis Association affiliated tennis clubs.

John is a life member of the Kingsbury Tennis Club and has been an active member since its foundation in 1983. He has served on the club’s committee in various roles for over 30 years, including 14 as president.

John was overwhelmed when receiving the award from Tennis Victoria president Gary Clark and paid tribute to the club he has called home for more than three decades.

“Well I’m very excited, very happy. [It’s] an acknowledgement of what I’ve done over many, many years,” he said.

“Tennis has been my love.”

John has a passion for junior development and has been instrumental in running open days and fundraising BBQs, promoting ANZ Hot Shots and organising club repairs. One of his most recent achievements was successfully overseeing the installation of two new plexipave courts for the club in 2014.

When the Kingsbury Tennis Club celebrated their 30th anniversary, John was successful in contacting a number of former members that had moved out of the area.

Tennis Victoria would like to congratulate John on his award and thank him for his contribution to tennis.
