Well done to our Victorian’s for their recent success on court!

Congratulations Dylan Alcott and John Peers

Dylan claimed his fourth overall Grand Slam singles title winning the 2017 Australian Open Quad Wheelchair singles title. His win makes it a “3-peat” of Australian Open singles titles.

It was a career best finish to 2016 for John Peers and partner Henri Kontinen (FIN), winning their first ATP Masters Doubles Title in Paris and then capturing the ATP World Tour Doubles Title in November in London. John continued his success in January, by winning his first Grand Slam Doubles title at the 2017 Australian Open.

December Showdown success

  • Amor Jasika won the Boys Australian 12/u singles championships.
  • Matthew Dellavedova won the Boys Australian 16/u singles championships.
  • Destanee Aiava won the Girls Australian 18/u singles championships and thereby received a WC into the Australian Open singles main draw.
  • Josh Charlton and Jeremy Taylor won the Boys 18/u Australian Championships Doubles title.
  • Destanee Aiava and Jeanette Lin won the Girls 18/u Australian Championships Doubles title.

Other 2017 Australian Open highlights

  • Jaimee Fourlis won the Australian Open Women’s Wildcard Play-off in December 2016 to reach her first main draw grand slam where she won her first round match defeating a top 100 ranked player.
  • Omar Jasika won the Australian Open Men’s Wildcard Play-off in December 2016.
  • Destanee Aiava with partner Alicia Smith (QLD) won the Australian Open Women’s Doubles Wildcard Play-off
  • Andrew Whittington received a Wildcard into the main draw of the Australian Open Singles event (Andrew was the next highest ranked Australian outside the main draw). He then made the 2nd round, defeating a top 100 ranked player in his first main draw Grand Slam.
  • Andrew Whittington and Marc Polmans reached the semi finals of the Australian Open men’s doubles event
  • Sam Groth and Chris Guccione reached the quarter finals of the men’s doubles event and Sam Groth also made the semi finals of the Australian Open mixed doubles event with partner Sam Stosur (QLD).
  • Heath Davidson and Dylan Alcott were runners up in the Australian Open Quad Wheelchair Doubles final.

Other Tour highlights

  • Omar Jasika captured his first ATP Challenger title by winning the singles title at the Burnie International Challenger event in Tasmania in February

  • John Peers and Sam Groth represented Australia in a Rd 1 World Group Tie vs Czech Republic.

  • Daria Gavrilova represented Australia in a Rd 1 World Group II Tie Vs the Ukraine.
