Dingley Tennis Club and Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club were crowned 2016 Tennis Victoria Pennant Grade 1 champions at the weekend, with the first weekend of Grade Grand Finals hosted by Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club and Dendy Park Tennis Club.

On red hot form, Dingley overcame Glenburn in a fantastic men’s Grade 1 Pennant final last Saturday, taking out the title 5 rubbers to 0. However the score wasn’t reflective of the match, as 3 of the 4 singles rubbers were extended to a third set in a titanic battle, with Dingley ultimately prevailing.

The win signals back-to-back Pennant titles for the men’s Dingley team, with an impressive record having won 3 of the previous 4 year’s titles, with Glenburn stopping the four-peat by claiming the 2014 title.

The Women’s final saw the two Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club teams go head-to-head after both recorded impressive semifinal victories over Hepner Place Indoor and Royal South Yarra.

In the final, Kooyong Lawn No. 1 team prevailed against Kooyong Lawn No. 2, 5 rubbers to 0, with Molly Polak spearheading the team with impressive results as the number 1 player.

The Pennant finals series will continue this Saturday 3 September with 7 Grand Finals. Dendy Park Tennis Club will host the men’s grades 2, 3 & 4 Grand Finals, while the men’s Grade 9 & 10 Grand Finals will be played at Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club, commencing at 11:00am.

The Women’s competition will see the Grade 3 and 5 Grand Finals take place at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club commencing at 9:00am.
