Tennis Victoria is thrilled to partner with the Swan Hill Rural City Council to host the 61st Inter-regional Country Championships next year.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor, Les McPhee, was delighted with the return of the Country Championships to the region who have previously hosted the event in 2013 and 2015.

“Council is thrilled to partner with Tennis Victoria and support the return of the Inter-regional Country Championships to Swan Hill,” McPhee said.

McPhee noted the large benefits that the event will bring to the town and the local businesses within.

“These types of events not only support and promote local sporting clubs, but they give us a chance to showcase the unique attractions and hospitality of our region.

“The positive flow on effects to our local businesses and traders, along with the opportunities for our local tennis stars to meet and compete with players from across the state, makes this event a win/win for our entire community.”

The Country Championships will take place at the Swan Hill Lawn and Croquet Club, with McPhee expecting the grass courts to be in pristine condition, as it was earlier in the year.

“The Swan Hill Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club did an absolutely fantastic job of organising and hosting the event last year,” McPhee said.

Running between 6-8 January 2017, approximately 250 players will compete across the 12/u to 18/u age groups, as well as 22/u, Open and 45+ age groups.

Tennis Victoria’s Inter-regional Country Championships are proudly supported by Swan Hill Rural City Council through its Major Events Supporting Scheme funding program.
