For the first time, the Victorian Tennis Awards will now include a Supporting Tennis – Local Government Recognition award for Local Government Areas who are engaged with, and are supportive of, tennis in their community.

City of Booroondara, Brimbank City Council, City of Greater Dandenong and City of Kingston have been named as finalists in the category, which saw a pleasing number of high quality nominations from various regions.

“To receive the number of nominations that we did in the award’s first year, is a testament to the work being done by our local government partners and our clubs who continue to build strong relationships with local government area representatives,” said Tennis Victoria’s Ken Jacobs, Executive Manager Government Relations and Places to Play.

“Tennis strives to be a leader in this space, and it’s important to reward councils who work collaboratively and proactively with the sport.”

The award will be presented at Tennis Victoria’s Championships Dinner on Monday, 27 June.

Now in its fifth year, the Victorian Tennis Awards include the coveted Most Outstanding Club, Centre or Association award as well as awards for Volunteer Achievement, Coaching Excellence, Most Outstanding School, Most Outstanding Tournament and Junior Athlete of the Year.

The awards have gained industry recognition, with last year’s Most Outstanding Club, Mt Eliza Tennis Club, subsequently becoming a finalist at the national Newcombe Medal / Australian Tennis Awards and also the Victorian Sport and Recreation Awards.
