This weekend will see thousands of tennis enthusiasts jump back on court as the 133rd Tennis Victoria Pennant season gets underway.

In 2016, 140 clubs will compete, involving over 4,000 players and an incredible 15,000+ rubbers played at clubs and centres across the greater Melbourne area.

As the longest running and largest interclub competition in Australia, Tennis Victoria Pennant caters to a wide range of playing formats, including the traditional singles and doubles formats, Men’s Open Doubles and the Men’s Masters 45+ Doubles.

“The tried and tested format of Tennis Victoria’s Pennant continues to ensure that playing competitive tennis is a lifelong pursuit,” said Tennis Victoria’s Executive Manager – Tennis Operations Nick Hinneberg.

Returning to the competition for his 43rd year is Grace Park Hawthorn’s Terry Stone. Stone is a stalwart of Tennis Victoria’s Pennant, regularly promoting the competition to junior players and in 2015 captained the team who were awarded the Kevin Howard Award for best performing Men’s Masters 45+ Doubles outfit.

Beginning on April 30, the season is played over 14 weeks culminating in a bumper few weekends of finals in September.

“I would like to thank participating clubs, administrators, volunteers, players, parents and officials for their on-going support of Tennis Victoria’s Pennant, and wish everyone the best of luck for an enjoyable and successful 2016 Pennant season,” said Hinneberg.
