6 February 2015 | Tennis Victoria

The conclusion of the 2015 Australian Open also sees the conclusion of the AO Tennis Blitz. Victorian communities were well represented in both the men’s and women’s singles draws cheering for 113 of the possible 256 players. Key match ups included Warrnambool cheering for Rafael Nadal, Melton South cheering for Simona Halep, Mornington cheering for Eugenie Bouchard and Castlemaine cheering for upcoming Aussie Nick Kyrgios.

However it was Melbourne cheering loudly for Andy Murray that almost saw victory for a Victorian town and the Scotsman, before Novak Djokovic claimed his 5th Australian Open title.

The AO Tennis Blitz aims to increase participation and interest in tennis by linking local communities with the Australian Open. Throughout 2014, towns could accrue points via a number of means including the online Hit the Target game, running School Tennis Days and Club Tennis Days. The more points your town earns, the higher ranked player you are linked with for the Australian Open.

Clubs can register their Club Tennis Days for 2015 now at http://ultimateclubchallenge.aoblitz.com.au/.
