The 2014 Victorian Hard Court Championships has concluded at Notting Hill Pinewood Tennis Club today.

Reigning men’s champion and number one seed Daniel Byrnes made it back to back championships with a tough three set win over sixth seed Lewis Miles. He was presented with the perpetual trophy by the 1984 men’s winner Ken Barton.

Women’s top seed Arina Rodionova defeated second seed Slovakian Zuzana Zlochova in straight sets.

In the men’s doubles unseeded pair Sam Dowler and Zac Osborne defeated number one seeds Marlina Pascual and Chanchai Sookton-Eng in a super tie breaker 10-8.  In the women’s doubles, the top seeds Dia Evtimova and Viktorija Rajicic defeated South African pair Chanel Simmonds and Michelle Sammons – also in a super tie breaker 11-9.

Tennis Victoria’s Tournaments Manager Andy Reynolds was pleased with the tournament. “The quality of the field was exceptional for a state championship.  Six women have a ranking inside the world’s top 300 and the men also had a large number of quality pro tour players. The international players loved the venue, the atmosphere and the chance to play some great tennis as many move into the ATL season.”

Thanks to Tournament Director Nick Gissing, Referee Jenny Brougham and Medical Provider Tom Chuang.
