7 April 2014 | Tennis Victoria

In anticipation of the Tennis Victoria Premier League (TVPL) Final this Sunday 13 April 2014, Tennis Victoria had a look at how the competing teams made their way to the finals and how the final looks to shape up.

In the men’s competition the top of the table Grace Park Lawn TC will take on the might of Kooyong Lawn TC. Ranked in the preseason predictions as 2nd and 1st respectively, the final will be a well fought out battle. Qualified players for both teams are:

Grace Park Lawn Tennis Club Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club
1. James Lemke 1. Daniel Byrnes
2. Dane Propoggia 2. Andrew Coelho
3. Adam Hubble 3. David Bidmeade
4. Jarryd Maher 4. Matthew Nickels
5 Jeremy Beale 5. Ricky Robertson

Grace Park Lawn will be confident going into the final after their previous meeting with Kooyong Lawn where they convincingly won 6-12-75 to 0-2-45 when they met in Round 3. Grace Park Lawn’s James Lemke looks set to match up against Daniel Byrnes of Kooyong Lawn setting up a brilliant No. 1 battle. It is expected Grace Park Lawn will go in with an unchanged line up where Kooyong Lawn will be without Andrew Whittington who played in their Round 3 encounter.

In the semifinals Grace Park Lawn were convincing in their win over Dingley TC while Kooyong were far too strong for the surprise packet Waverley Tennis.

Will Grace Park Lawn be able topple last years’ Champions or will it be a case of back to back wins for Kooyong Lawn?

In the women’s competition it will be a tough contest between MCC Tennis and Kooyong Lawn TC. Kooyong Lawn will be looking to go one better in 2014 after finishing runner-up to last years TVPL debutants and eventual winners Delahey Recreation. The loss from last year will spur the Kooyong Lawn side when they meet the undefeated MCC Tennis team who have had a fantastic 2014 TVPL season.   Will they be able to cap off a brilliant season to date? Qualified players for both teams are

MCC Tennis Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club
1. Zoe Hives 1. Arina Rodionova
2. Eliza Long 2. Destanee Aiava
3. Jaimee Fourlis 3. Annabelle Andrinopoulos
4. Sevvy Gallios 4. Kate Antosik
5. Romy Stephens 5. Brigitte Bec
6. Marija Mirkovic 6. Molly Polak
7. Alana Parnaby
8. Katerina Valos

MCC Tennis will be keen to add some silverware to the cabinet after a while in the wilderness. The benefit of the MCC Tennis team is that it is the young guns of the club who have been firing giving great signs for the future. When last they met the MCC ladies were the winners in a closerly fought out battle back in Round 2. It is interesting to note that Eliza Long was missing for MCC while Anastasia Rodionova and young star Destanee Aiava were also missing for Kooyong Lawn. If all of these great players make the court on Sunday it is sure to be a spectacular clash for the TVPL final.

The TVPL finals will be held at the Glen Iris Valley Recreations Club (260-270 High Street Road, Mt Waverley) from 1pm.  All clubs are encouraged to come along and support what has been a fantastic season of TVPL tennis.
