21 June 2012 | Tennis Victoria

As Tennis Victoria’s Championships Dinner on 25 June draws closer, we take a look at the finalists in each category; today, we look at the Most Outstanding Club, Centre, or Association or School award.

The recipient of this award, presented by Winning Edge Presentations, will be a club, centre, association or school who has dedicated a great deal of time to enhance and promote the game of tennis to the wider community. They are welcoming, supportive and have implemented a range of Tennis Australia and Tennis Victoria programs. They ensure that they adhere to guidelines and have Tennis Australia registered coaches to guarantee their players are taught at the highest possible standard.

Caroline Springs Tennis Club

Caroline Springs Tennis Club is a successful club who has recently refreshed all of their facilities and given new life to the club. There has been a large increase in membership over recent years, and the club is heavily involved in the local community and regularly liaises with their local government. The club runs a large range of Tennis Victoria’s programs and ensures there is something to cater for all age groups. They hosted the Australian Open trophies and held a Club Open Day, with over 500 people attending. It was covered by local media and was an excellent way of showcasing the club and the game of tennis in general.

Elaine Tennis Club

After ten years of being closed, the Elaine Tennis Club reopened in 2010. In two years, the number of players has constantly grown and there are now four junior teams and one senior team. The club received local media coverage to raise awareness about the reopening and they worked with Tennis Victoria on their programs. Elaine Tennis Club has the support of many local businesses and is a popular spot on the weekend for the locals to socialise. They also have people coming from small faraway towns to participate in their competitions.

Frankston Tennis Club

Frankston Tennis Club is a Tennis Australia Regional Partner and has many programs that are supported by Tennis Victoria. The club has an extremely good relationship with the local community and council and they ensure that non-members can become involved in the sport by opening up their courts for general hire when they are not in use. The club runs a very successful and popular night tennis competition five nights a week. These events are a mixture of fundraising for the club, charity work and encouraging new members to join.

Waverley Tennis

Waverley Tennis has over 100 affiliated clubs under its umbrella and offers many programs for players of all ages and skill sets. They have a good relationship with the local community and assist players by helping them choose a club suitable for them based on their skill set, and where they would like their tennis career to head. They run a number of tournaments and competitions each year and they work with Tennis Victoria in the organisation of the tournaments by using the Tournament Planner software. They promote these opportunities through newsletters, newspaper articles, their website and brochures.
