GOVERNMENT SUPPORTERS
Health Through Tennis

VicHealth’s successful long term partnership with Tennis Victoria commenced in 1987 and are lucky enough to be part of the VicHealth State Sporting Association Participation Program (SSAPP) for the next three years. VicHealth are providing funding for 30 State Sporting Associations over the next three years to help undertake work with four identified priority populations (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Communities, Women and Girls, People with a disability and Indigenous Australians).

The program is designed to bring about sustainable organisation change at a state and member level and create safe, accessible, inclusive and equitable environments that support participation at all levels. Tennis Victoria choose CALD Communities as the priority population to work with and will be addressing the following issues:

  1. Lack of opportunities for CALD communities to experience the sport
  2. No Specific marketing to these communities
  3. Lack of TV understanding of the opportunities to engage with the CALD communities
  4. Clubs/coaches don’t understand why and how to engage CALD communities
  5. Cost is a barrier to participation in tennis for CALD communities
  6. Lack of local Role Models within the CALD communities

Tennis Victoria was the proud recipient of a 2005 VicHealth Health Promotion Excellence Award. Read more about the successful partnership between Tennis Victoria and VicHealth.
