“Tennis the Game for Life”
Why Play Tennis and get Serious about it?
Its great fun, it’s very physical and incredibly challenging. You will get to travel and experience many cultures, meet lots of interesting people, some of who will become friends for life. If you work hard and take on board the right advice to become an elite player there are many rewards that may come your way. Tennis Tasmania would like to encourage and support these players as they pursue this great journey.
The sport of tennis and development of a player is an avenue for life. Rankings, trophies, prizemoney, sponsorship and winning are just bonuses that go with the journey.
Our goal is to take a holistic approach towards an athlete’s overall development in all areas technically, tactically, physically, psychologically and environmentally.
It is important for the 4 major stakeholders (Parent, player, private and State Coach) to work as a unified team.
The Tennis Tasmania Player Development program fits into the National Structure as shown on the Tennis Australia website. As players develop in Tasmania they will regularly, travel interstate to gain appropriate competition. Tasmania is part of the catchment area for the Melbourne National High Performance Academy (NHPA). When a player meets certain National criteria (For full details on Criteria and NHPA Scholarships go to the TA Website Player Development section) they will be eligible for scholarship benefits. A Tasmanian junior player who earns a year-end No. 1 Ranking in their birth year will be invited to participate at the Melbourne NHPA. This would involve possible relocation, so many things must be accounted for when making a decision to take up this offer. As far as overall development it will be important for each individual to choose the appropriate time to train and compete full time on the mainland to reach maximum potential.
Our Program consists of six (6) Levels. Check Player Development and Competition Pathway above.
Tennis Tasmania Player Development Objective
