Hiring Tennis Officials

Tennis Officials Australia – Tasmania Division (TOAT) can provide Referees, Chair Umpires, Line Umpires and Court Supervisors for tennis tournaments of all standards in this state.  If you are interested in obtaining our services for your tournament or would like more information on what we can provide, please contact our President by email: toatas@tennisofficials.org.au

What does it take to become a Tennis Official?

• Be at least 16 years of age,
• An interest in tennis usually makes your time as an Official more enjoyable – but isn’t essential,
• No prior experience necessary,
• Good natural or corrected vision. 

What roles are there?

• Line umpires,
• Chair umpires,
• Court Supervisors,
• Referees,
• Chief of Officials.

And what training is involved?

One step at a time you will be trained from scratch on how to become the best Tennis Official you want to be.  After initial training, you’ll be encouraged to put into practice what you’ve learnt at tournaments as often as you’re available.

After your initial training, you will be able to branch out to become a Line Umpire or Court Supervisor (or both if you like).  Once you’re comfortable with that role, training for other roles will become available. 

On successful completion of training you will be a ‘Qualified Official’.  Then with experience and further training this will enable you to work tennis events such as the Moorilla Hobart International, Australian Open and Davis Cup ties and beyond.
