13 November 2014 | Tennis Tasmania

After a much deserved week off for a few experienced Tasmanian Tennis League (TTL) players we are almost set to the fun and excitement that the TTL finals will bring us. With $10,000 in prize money on offer as well as regional and club bragging rights the action couldn’t be at a higher climax. With four teams already sent packing we are down to 4 men’s and 2 women’s teams with it all to play for this Sunday at the Domain Tennis Centre.

The Geilston Bay lady Aces and Lindisfarne Sharks men’s outfit will both be sweating on the health of their players with the Sharks Thomas Youl and Aces Wynonah Conway both rushing back from niggling injuries. Youl was forced on the side line after inflaming his shoulder in practice whilst Conway is hoping her ailing wrist will recover in time to help her Aces upset the highly fancied Lindisfarne lady Sharks. On deck to step up if required is Chris Schade from the Sharks. Schade was a former junior standout who has steadily been recapturing his form as he looks to peak his condition with a likely matchup against the Launceston Cobras Jeff Speer. For the Aces mature recruit Tiffany Moreno is on standby after impressing all in her earlier contest against the Sharks. Aces manager Tony Blom has confidence in Moreno and may very well include Moreno in his team’s line-up regardless of the Conway call.

North of the State both the Launceston Rams and Cobras will remain unchanged ahead of their finals campaign, providing an ideal preparation for the experienced teams. Wary of the two matches on the finals day both teams took a few days off to get have their body in peak physical condition ahead of the two matches that await. Ben Barnett from the Rams indicated that his team is very well gelled and thrive under the format of three singles and three doubles. “We always train together throughout the week and know each other’s games inside out. I think this will be an advantage come Sunday.”

With the Tasmanian Tennis League, which has been hosted by clubs throughout the state, coming to a close we call upon all Tasmanian tennis fans to get down to the Domain Tennis Centre this Sunday 16th November for some mouth-watering tennis action, family fun and activities including inflatables and a free BBQ to all players and spectators. Entry is FREE and the semi-finals kick off from 10.30am.

Come and watch the upcoming and current Tasmanian talent as we close the curtain on the wildly successful Tasmanian Tennis League. Who will you support on finals day??
