31 October 2014 | Tennis Tasmania

It’s hard to believe it is time for the third and final regular season match of the highly successful Tasmanian Tennis League (TTL). Teams will battle each other with all teams a mathematical chance to play finals and claim the $10,000 in prize money. The South conference is still very open with the teams getting back to business after a washout abandoned last weekend’s action.

Kicking off the round will be the first twilight match of the competition which will feature the host Geilston Bay Aces up against the Lindisfarne Sharks. Both teams were halted last weekend after impressive week one victories against the Kingston Sea Eagles and Domain Wizards respectively. The Aces will be led by captain/manager Tony Blom who will no doubt bring his infectious energy and enthusiasm to his young and talented team. The sister brother combination of Nick and Eliane Fader will play a large role into the fortunes of the Aces. Both players will likely play towards the top of their team’s line up with their play impressing many in attendance.

Standing in the Aces way will be the high octane and undefeated Lindisfarne Sharks outfit. Fresh of a resounding win over the Wizards the Sharks will go in for the kill with Daniel Groom leading manager John Playle’s charges. Groom has almost been untouchable on Tasmanian soil this year claiming all state titles in his age group. On the women’s side born leader Erin Fazackerley will look to make an impact both on the court and supporting team mates. Fazackerley has been known for her booming serve and doubles prowess.

Play will kick-off tomorrow from 4.30pm with the Super 12s taking to the court before the men and women’s TTL sides get going at 6.30pm. Get down to the Geilston Bay tennis club with a free BBQ, family activities including a speed serve and hit the target blow up and free tennis whilst you watch the strongest players in Tasmania duke it out!

In the other South conference match the Kingston Sea Eagles will battle the Domain Wizards with both teams needing a convincing win to play in the knock out rounds. In the North conference the Launceston Cobras will look to ease their way into the finals with a match against the Trevallyn Titans. The Cobras are already guaranteed a trip to the finals with Trevallyn needing to cause a huge boil over to squeak through. The Launceston Rams and Burnie Broncos will likely play off for the final playoff position with both teams very evenly matched going into Saturday afternoon’s encounter at the Launceston Regional Tennis Centre.

Get down to your local team’s club and support your favourite TTL team!
