After a weekend full of highly entertaining and great quality tennis action, week one of the Tasmanian Tennis League (TTL) is in the books. For the Burnie Broncos, Geilston Bay Aces, Launceston Cobras and Lindisfarne Sharks spirits are high as they stayed perfect with a first round victory whilst for the Domain Wizards, Kingston Sea Eagles, Launceston Rams and Trevallyn Titans its back to the drawing board as they look to get their season back on track.

The curtain was unveiled and play kicked off on a cool day at the world class Burnie Tennis Club. The BBQ was firing and music blaring as the Burnie Tennis club held their club carnival day to showcase their club where a generous crowd was in attendance, being treated to some mouthwatering tennis.

In the match of the round Titans captain Ken Ho and Broncos top rank Connor Parke played out a highly entertaining tussle with the crowd thoroughly enjoying the modified rules and exciting format. With the first two sets being split it was up to a third set where Ho was able to prevail and give his Titans a jump on the highly fancied Broncos. Unfortunately for Ho, his teammates were unable to follow suit with Burnie claiming a 3-1 advantage before rain abandoned play for the day.

In other results Jeff Speer led his Launceston Cobras past Andrew Youl’s Launceston Rams after Speer used all his tenacity and experience in subduing his younger opponent.

In Hobart on Sunday both men and women’s Geilston Bay Aces and Lindisfarne Sharks outfits prevailed over Kingston Sea Eagles and Domain Wizards respectively with youth and exuberance outlasting experience after the younger teams gaining an edge. Sixteen year old standout Daniel Groom paved the way for the Sharks headlined by a hard fought singles win over Peter Leary from the Wizards. For the Sea Eagles top ranked female Catherine Krueger want enough as the Aces blanketed Krueger’s charges claiming a hard fought victory.
