Sunshine Coast Tennis League

Dear Tennis Player

Welcome to edition two of the Sunshine Coast Tennis League (SCTL). Thank you to everyone who participated in the inaugural competition in 2013, we can’t wait to have you back in February 2014.

The SCTL is for both recreational and tournament players. The top divisions will be even stronger in 2014 with the Sunshine Coast’s leading adult and junior players set to compete. This includes:

  • Phil Janz (US college player & former QLD State Team Member)
  • Pat Flynn (former world ranked singles & doubles player)
  • Geoff Rafter (former world ranked doubles player)
  • Luke Harvey (winner of numerous Australian Money Tournaments)
  • Simon Merrin (former world ranked singles & doubles player, & national junior champion)
  • Jack Moore (QLD State Junior Team Member)
  • Scott Dawson (#3 ranked 17/U in QLD)
  • Koby Jansen (5th 2013 16/U Clay Court Nationals)
  • Somer Dalla-Bona (#1 ranked QLD 14/U Girl)
  • Dane Sweeny (12/U National Singles & Doubles Champion)

The SCTL is played from 2 to 5pm on Saturdays with venues rotating between Kawana, Mooloolaba and Caloundra Tennis Clubs (all matches are at one venue). Each of the 2 players in a team will play 1 singles and 1 doubles match. The competition is standard based (mixed) and open to players aged 10 years and older.

The SCTL is scheduled around Australian Ranking Tournaments and Sunshine Coast Junior Development Series Tournaments enabling players who compete in tournaments to still have the opportunity to play regular team tennis. This also means non-tournament players do not have to commit to tennis every weekend. The dates of the 2014 SCTL are 8 Feb, 15 Feb, 22 Feb, 1 Mar, 8 Mar, 15 Mar, 22 Mar, 29 Mar, 10 May, 17 May (backup date for weather), 14 Jun, 21 Jun (Finals) and 22 Jun (Grand final)
The winning Div 1 team will receive $650, the winning Div 2 Team $250 and the winning Div 3 Team $150. Players pay $15 each week to play and there is no registration fee for teams. Each venue will also conduct a free sausage sizzle from 2:30pm onwards.

If you need any further information on the competition please don’t hesitate to chat to your local coach, check out the SCTL Fact Sheet or visit http://tennis.com.au/sctennisleague

We look forward to seeing everyone at the competition in 2014!
