Day 6 has been a spectacular day and a fitting finale for the 2017 12/u and 14/u Australian Grasscourt Championships.

In the 12-and-under boys, [2] Edward Winter (SA) took the first set comfortably 6-2 against [7] Doni Gashi (SA). Gashi fought hard, but Winter continued to hold the momentum, winning the second set 6-1 and claiming the 12-and-under boys’ Australian Grasscourt championship.

The 14-and-under boys was a tight encounter. [4] Tai Sach (Qld) took the first set 6-2, but came up against a fighting opponent in [3] Cooper White (Vic) who took the second set 6-3. Sach came back to win the third set 6-1 and take the title.

Top seed Hana Sonton (Qld) had a relatively straightforward victory over second seed Catherine Aulia (NSW) 6-2 6-1 to claim the 12-and-under girls’ title, whilst in the longest match of the morning, [5] Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz (SA) got off to a great start taking the first set 6-3, however top seed Tina Smith (Qld) came back to win the next two sets 7-5 6-3 to take the 14-and-under girls’ championship.

Thank you also to our Tournament Director – Francis Soyer, Tournament Referee – Jan Walczak, Chair Umpire Coach – Emma Walter, Physiotherapists – Anita Bruce and Cara Gleeson, and to all of the Chair Umpires, Court Supervisors and Line Umpires who have worked the event.
