The 2017 Honeycomb.Design Clare Valley Tennis International will take place at Clare Tennis Club in Clare, South Australia later this month from 25 February to 5 March.

The tournament is set to attract a strong field of Australian and international players, including a crop of up-and-coming tennis stars who will compete for $25,000 in prize money and valuable world ranking points.

“Visiting the Clare and Gilbert Valleys for the second time, the 2017 Honeycomb.Design Clare Valley Tennis International forms part of the Australian Pro Tour and provides an opportunity for players to earn crucial world ranking points,” Ty Allen, 2017 Honeycomb.Design Clare Valley Tennis International Tournament Director, said.

“This tournament also provides the general public with a fantastic opportunity to watch some world class tennis right in their backyard.”

Clare and Gilbert Valleys Mayor Allan Aughey said he was pleased to welcome tennis players from around the world to the Clare and Gilbert Valleys region.

“We are very excited to again be hosting a tournament of this level in the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council region. The Pro Tour provides a great opportunity to showcase our region on an international stage and we look forward to welcoming the players and staff. I strongly encourage everyone to come down and attend the event in its second year,” he said.

While the on-court action will be the main event, organisers have worked hard to coordinate a range of off-court opportunities for the community to enjoy, including:

Tournament calendar:

  • Saturday 25 February – Tournament qualifying will start
  • Sunday 26 FebruaryPaulett Wines Mayoral Opening Ceremony and Official Draw will take place and is free for the public to attend
  • Tuesday 28 February – Main draw matches will start. Entry to the tournament is free with matches commencing at 10.00 am daily from Saturday to Friday. Northern Argus Pro-Am will also be held on Tuesday and gives event sponsors and local businesses the chance to meet players and compete in an evening of light-hearted matches
  • Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 March – Local school children will also be involved in the action, with a free Pro Tour Schools Experience. Children will experience a behind-the-scenes tour of the tournament and have the opportunity to play ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, they will also have the chance to meet players and staff along the way
  • Friday 3 March – Doubles final scheduled to start at 5.30 pm
  • Saturday 4 March – Singles semifinals scheduled to start at 11.00 am
  • Sunday 5 March – Singles final scheduled to start at 11.00 am

The player field for the Clare Valley Tennis International will be announced in the coming weeks.
