South Australia’s Festival of Tennis is set to return in 2016, with a new name, new events and new opportunities for tennis lovers to Get Court Up!

Tennis SA will host TennisFest at Next Generation Memorial Drive, from Friday 18 November to Thursday 24 November 2016.

A total of eleven individual and team events, including three new participation initiatives, will feature at TennisFest, showcasing the tournaments and competitions pathway from participation to high performance.

The TennisFest schedule will also include six activations plus a new showcase zone, giving people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to get involved.

The festival will open on Friday 18 November with the newly formed Sets in the City social tennis night. This event is set to be social tennis like you’ve never seen before, with photo booth, raffle and best dressed competitions amongst the off court activities on offer. Laugh. Sing. Dance. Tennis. Friday evening will also see South Australia’s best juniors take part in a Junior State League super round at Peake Gardens Riverside Tennis Club.

Saturday will feature the South Australian Championships for Players with an Intellectual Disability, along with school teams competing in Drive Tennis and a State League super round for South Australia’s highest level players.

Super Sunday will see 36 courts running simultaneously in the Memorial Drive precinct, including Super 10s, Junior Asia-Pacific Tennis League (Angus Thomson Cup), TennisFest Wheelchair Open, State League Grand Final rematch and the conclusion of the South Australian Championships for Players with an Intellectual Disability.

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots participants are being encouraged to bring their parents out on court during the Red Ball Rumble to be held at Next Generation Memorial Drive on Sunday 22 November. This is a great opportunity for parents to jump out on court alongside their children for an afternoon of doubles fun at TennisFest. Smaller courts, racquets and low compression balls will be provided, making it fun and easy for participants (including mums and dads!) to play. To enter online, please visit: http://bit.ly/RBRumble

“We are happy to announce the full program of events for the newly named TennisFest, including our three new participation initiatives, Sets in the City, Red Ball Rumble and the TennisFest Wheelchair Open,” said Steven Baldas, Tennis SA Chief Executive Officer.

“TennisFest is this year set to include eleven tennis events, plus an additional six activations and will showcase all levels of the sport in Adelaide over one action packed weekend.”
