Junior State League – Results

The first official season of Junior State League kicked off on Friday the 14th of October with the Boy’s Super Round being played at Peake Gardens Tennis Club and the Girl’s Super Round being played at Millswood Tennis Complex. Players arrived in their team colours ready to compete for their club to get the first points on the board for the season.

Goodwood Girls dealt Beaumont their first loss for the year with a six rubbers to zero win. Goodwood’s Nikki Milner had a strong win when she overcame Rita Zhiltsova at number one single, Milner’s win was backed up with a super impressive win by Evana Bowell at number two single, Bowell beat Beaumont player Annika Tobin 6-1.

Trinity and Happy Valley had a tight match with some top level tennis played throughout the night. Heidi Evans got Happy Valley off to a strong start with a 6-4 win over Olivia Salvatore at top single, Trinity’’s Yasmin Bennett got them back in the game with a solid win over Chenoa Norris while Trinity’s Meeka Marshall got over the line in a tight match with Taryn Gartner.

Seaside had a commanding five rubbers to one win over Hahndorf. Tully Richter set the tone for the night with a 6-3 win over Olivia Hughes at number one single and from there Seaside continued to dominate.

In the men’s competition Coromandel Valley had a five rubber to one win over Glenunga, Cormandel’s Olly Douglas was too good for the Glenunga opposition at number one single and form there Coromandel continued to stay on top.

Stirling had a four rubbers to two win over Tea Tree Gully, Stirling’s number one Justin Tscharke was unable to tame Dale Nixon at number one single but Stirling was too strong in the doubles as they took away an 8 point to 2 win.

Seaside also had a four rubbers to two win with number one player Edward Vo making a strong debut to Junior State League, Vo had an impressive win over Peake Gardens opponent Tom Downey. Seaside were then able to take out rubbers two and four in singles for the night which set them up for the win.

In the best match of the opening round Trinity were in hot form with a win over Goodwood which came down to five games after the rubbers were tied at three all. Trinity’s Jared Waterman was in great form with a dominant win over Goodwood’s number one Stan Karahalios while Luka lIic also had a convincing win at number two single.
