Tennis Australia has appointed former Australian player Sandon Stolle as the new National Academy Coach in South Australia.

A doubles specialist, Stolle reached a career-high doubles ranking of world No.2, won 22 ATP doubles titles – including the US Open men’s doubles championship in 1998 – and reached three Grand Slam doubles finals: at the US Open in 1995 and at Wimbledon and Roland Garros in 2000.

A member of Australia’s powerhouse Davis Cup team between 1997 and 2000, Stolle also boasts significant coaching experience both in Australia and internationally.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na powered into the world’s top 20 under Stolle’s tutelage in his time with the Chinese Tennis Federation prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with Stolle also touring with top Chinese doubles player Tiantian Sun and consulting with Chinese doubles pair Yan Zi and Zheng Jie.

In Australia Stolle worked with the National Academy in New South Wales between 2009 and 2011 and the AIS Pro Tour Program from 2007 to 2009, developing, training and touring with players including Casey Dellacqua, Sam Groth, James Duckworth, Matt Barton, Jordan Thompson and Jessica Moore.

“I’m excited to be back involved in performance development and working in a state that has such a long list of great champions,” Stolle said.

“I look forward to working with the team in South Australia and helping to develop a strong training environment.”

In other news for the National Academy in South Australia, Physical Performance Coach Dr Alistair Murphy has been promoted to Physical Performance Academy Manager – South Australia.

Murphy is a specialist in exercise rehabilitation whose credentials include a Bachelor of Exercise Science and PhD in Human Movement Science. He will work alongside Stolle at the South Australian tennis base to continue to foster Australian talent.

Both Stolle and Murphy will report to National Academy Head Coach in South Australia, Milo Bradley.
