It’s been another exciting day of tennis here at the 2015 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International, with matches once again played in near perfect conditions.

In the women’s, first to hit the court was third seed Su Jeong Jang (KOR) who started and finished her match strongly against sixth seed Aussie Jessica Moore winning 6-3 6-4. This left Priscilla Hon the only Aussie in the women’s field, Hon put in her best efforts but was unable to claim victory losing in three sets to Mana Ayukawa (JPN) 6-4 3-6 7-6.  Whilst fourth seed Na-Lae Han (KOR) battled for over three hours for a spot in the Semi Finals winning in three sets 7-5 5-7  6-1 against Yuuki Tanaka (JPN).

In the Men’s  fifth seed Matthew Barton (AUS) was gifted a Semi Final when Harry Bourchier (AUS) retired in the second set awarding Barton a 6-2 3-0 victory. The match of the day was contested out on centre court in front of a packed crowd who flocked in to see local favourite Daniel Hobart (AUS) taking on number one seed Brydan Klein (GBR). Hobart and Klein both came out to play hitting remarkable shots from all angles on the court, Hobart fell a way in the second set after a confidence boosting first set but was able to regain himself in the third set wining 7-6 1-6 6-3. Hobart will now take on seventh seed Alexander  Sarkissian (USA) in the Semi Finals who won convincingly against an injured Aussie Gavin Van Peperzeel 6-2 6-2.

The doubles finals then brought the day to a close, with some sensational tennis on display. Number one seeds in the women’s  Jessica Moore (AUS) and Abbie Myers (AUS) emerged victorious, taking home the 2015 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International Doubles crown with a 6-0 6-3 win over third seeds Liu Chang (CHN) and Ran Tian (CHN). In the men’s number two seeds Carsten Ball (AUS) and Matt Reid (AUS) contested the whole match against fellow Aussie pairing Steven De Waard and Jacob Grills with both pairings having there opportunities to win. Grills and De Waard continued to stay in front the whole match but was unable to keep the lead falling short at the last hurdle 5-7 7-6 10-7  awarding the Doubles crown  to Ball & Reid who now finish their South Australian swing with two doubles titles.

Tomorrow’s semi-final matches are scheduled to begin at 11:00am.
