Main draw matches for the 2015 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International kicked off yesterday in perfect weather conditions at the Port Pirie & District Tennis Association.

In the Men’s South Aussies Darren Polkinghorne and Daniel Hobart move into the round of 16 after strong performances. Polkinghorne defeated Finn Tearney (NZL) in straight sets and never looked like losing while Port Pirie local Hobart took advantage of Marious Zelba (AUS) after a medical timeout was taken half way through the second set to win in straight. Polkinghorne will now play 7th seed Alexander Sarkissian (USA) while Hobart will take on 8th seed Ryan Agar (AUS) on Thursday. Alex Silcock (AUS) received his first ATP Raking points defeating Feda Bilic (AUS) 6-4 6-2.

In the women’s, 4th seed Na-Lee Han (KOR) won comfortably defeating Abbie Myers (AUS) 6-3 6-2. While the first upset of the day came when Sherazad Reix (FRA) defeated 5th seed Zuzanna Zlochova (SVK) 6-3 6-2.

In the Women’s doubles, South Aussie Nicole Collie & Karis Ryan (AUS) won their spot into the Quarter Finals winning a tight encounter against Karmonwan Buayam & Nungnada Wanasuk (THA) 6-4 7-5. In the Men’s Darren Polkinghorne made it two for two with partner Scott Poudziunas (AUS) knocking off top seeds Maverick Banes & Gavin Van Peperzeel (AUS) in a close three set battle 2-6 7-5 7-6.
