The Foundation Cup Regional team’s events were played over the past two days on the courts of Berri-View Tennis Club, hosts of Foundation Cup 2014 in perfect weather conditions. Six regions Lower West Coast, Upper Northern, Lower Northern, North East, South East and Hills/Murray/Fleurieu competed in 13/u and 15/u boys and girl’s team’s events. 96 regional kids competed in their respective teams showing great sportsmanship and determination to get points on the board for their region.

Hills/Murray/Fleurieu were too strong, taking out a clean sweep, winning all four team events. North East 13/u girls pushed Hills/Murray/Fleurieu for the flag when they played each other in the last round, both being undefeated, North East pushed hard only to be beaten by two games. 15/u boy’s event could have gone in any direction with all top three teams only losing one time each.

One 13/U boy and girl were awarded the prestigious Kevin Shwarz Sportsperson Award. This award is presented to the boy and girl who show the best sportsmanship on court and is voted on each round by the opposing team. The winner of the girl’s award was Emily Turley from South East on eight votes, edging out Eleni Nikas from North East on seven votes. The winner of the boys award was a tie, with first time back-to-back winner Adam Roy from North East and Henry Nelligan from Lower West Coast on six votes edging out 4 nominees who tied for second place on five votes.
