Important update from the Tennis SA Tournaments and Competitions team

State Qualifying events for the December Showdown

Tennis SA will be holding State Qualifying events for the December Showdown Nationals for the 12’s and 14’s age groups.

In a new structure used across NSW, Victoria, Queensland, WA and SA each state will hold qualifying events in their state throughout October and November for the players who do not get direct acceptance into the December Showdown 12’s and 14’s event.

The main draw for December Showdown 12’s and 14’s will be 64 draws with 20 direct acceptances (based on the end of September Australian Ranking’s), three players who have won National Championship events in Queensland, NSW and Victoria throughout 2014, 16 International Invitations and 25 State/Territory Positions Victoria (4), NSW (4), Queensland (4), SA (4), WA (4), NT (1), ACT (2) and Tasmania (2).

Direct acceptances will be released on Friday, 10 October. All State Qualifying events are played without any Australian Rankings Points on offer.

The SA State Qualifiers will be 32 player draws, any player can enter the tournament however final acceptance will be based on the 32 highest ranked players entered. Players who are not in the 32 highest ranked players entered will not be able to play the event. Each draw will be played up to the semifinal stage with the four semifinalists awarded the qualifying position for the December Showdown.

Teams events at the December Showdown will still be selected by National Academy Coaches.

  • Entry details:
    • Entries open – Monday, 1 September
    • Entries close Sunday, 12 October at 11:59pm
    • Tournament acceptance list confirmed Wednesday, 15 October
    • Tournament entries will be online via the Tennis SA tournaments page as per our AR events.
  • Dates
    • Day One – 26 October, Seaside Tennis Club (two rounds per event)
    • Day Two – 2 November, Memorial Drive Tennis Centre (Quarter finals only)

Fast Four Tournaments

Tennis Australia and Tennis SA will be trialling Fast Four tournaments over the coming summer and throughout 2015.

Fast Four tournaments are lower level Australian Rankings Tournaments played over 1-2 days using the shortened Fast Four Format. The Fast Four tournament will be singles only events and are created to try and find a more time friendly, cost effective way of people playing tournaments compared to the traditional 4-5 day tournaments with longer formats. The first Fast Four Tournament held in SA will be at Murray Bridge on the 14-15 of December

  • Dates – 14-15 December
  • Singles only
  • Fast Four Format:
    • Best of three, four game sets
    • Tie break at 3 games all
    • Tiebreak first to five points
    • No lets
    • No advantage
  • Entries will be as per usual AR events on the Tennis SA website

Coopers Alehouse Metro State League Nominations Open for 2014/15 season

Nominations are now open for the 2014/15 Coopers Alehouse Metro State League season

Please Note that the closing date for Nominations is 6:00pm Friday, 29 August.

Nominations received will be vetted & assessed by the Metro State League Committee, comprising of representatives of the Metro Lawn Tennis Association & Tennis SA.
