The girls’ 18/u Australian Championships quarterfinals feature some of the country’s most promising talent after the top five seeds in the event advanced from the round-robin groups.

Destanee Aiava (1), Jaimee Fourlis (2), Sara Tomic (3) and Priscilla Hon (4) all finished atop their groups with perfect 3-0 records, while Maddison Inglis (5) advanced from Group D behind Hon with a 2-1 record.

Also moving through to the quarters were Michaela Haet, Alexandra Bozovic and Kaylah McPhee; McPhee last year upset top seed Olivia Rogowska in the first round of the Australian Open Play-off.

The same could not be said in the boys’ 18/u event, however; top seed Alexei Popyrin and second seed Stefan Skadarka failed to progress from the round-robin stage.

Popyrin, after winning his opening match, lost his next two – the latest, to Benard Nkomba, meant he finished third in Group A, while Nkomba and Lucas Vuradin (who finished on top with a 3-0 record) advanced to the quarters.

Skardarka lost all three of his matches in Group B; advancing from that pool were wildcards Chase Ferguson and Scott Jones.

The other two round-robin groups followed the form guide.

In Group C, No.3 seed Mislav Bosnjak and sixth seed Matthew Dellavedova advanced with identical 2-1 records, while in Group D, it was Adam Walton (No.5) and Kody Pearson (No.4) progressing to the last eight.
