After an exceptional two weeks of tennis played by rising stars, the 2016 Rod Laver Queensland Junior Championships presented by Tennis & Gear Online has come to an end. Over 600 players from 13 countries around the world descended on Brisbane to participate, once again positioning the tournament as the largest Australian Ranking competition across the country.

Over the nine days of lead in and main event, over 2,500 matches were played spanning 76 courts over six venues across Brisbane. Players were guaranteed six competitive matches in the competition, with an additional six match championship held at Churchie for players eliminated in the first three rounds of the Rod Laver Tournament.

Singles champions represented locations including New Zealand, Japan, Maryborough, Brisbane and Adelaide, joining illustrious past winners Sam Stosur, Bernard Tomic, Nick Kyrgios, and Ash Barty, in the Rod Laver record books.

Queensland’s own had a victorious end to the tournament, with Alec Braun winning five three-set matches for the under 12 boys. Hayden Jones and Roopa Bains were the winners or the under 14’s, and Danielle Morris took out the win for the under 16 girls.

Also presented during the tournament were the Anne Huddleston Fair Play trophies. Following on from the previous three years, the Huddleston family awarded these to players who displayed positive attitudes and who set noble examples throughout the week long event. Congratulations to deserving winners Ryan Wang and Krystal Clarke for 2016.
